Protecting yourself against car break-ins

Safety Topic of the Week: Car break-ins

Office Victor Bessera of the Houston Police Department, who also coordinates the patrol for Montrose Management District, gave a presentation on recent crime issues and prevention tips at our first quarter members’ meeting. He suggests that it is essential to hide any valuables, lock your car and take your keys with you. Officer Bessera reported thieves make a practice of systematically searching parking lots and neighborhoods for cars that are easy to break into and appear to have something of value visible inside — even loose change can be valuable to a thief. He explained to MAMA members that it is safer to carry your insurance information in your wallet rather than leaving it in the car. In the event your car is broken into – having the information from your insurance card links the thief to your home.
